Score 85/100 · Drink 2016, Jeb Dunnuck, Wine Advocate, Aug 2016

The only dud in the lineup is the 2013 Grenache Black Oak, which saw 100% stems and two years in neutral wood. Its evolved ruby color is followed by attractive notes of dried cherries, spice and cedar. This gives way to a medium-bodied, firm, linear Grenache that has some worrying dry tannin. Give bottles a year to see if the tannin sweetens up, but I suspect this will need to be drunk up.

The 2013 Grenache Black Oak Vineyard is a promising wine. Hints of red berry fruit, dried flowers and leather make a strong first impression, but then the wine's depth and persistence drop off precipitously. The 2014 was done with 100% whole clusters.
