Score 89/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, May 2007

(from the Kennefick Ranch and Blackbird vineyards) Dark red. Redcurrant, tobacco, leather and nutty, chocolatey oak on the nose. Silky-sweet and fat, with red fruit and spice flavors carrying a good bit of oak. Finishes with building, tongue-dusting tannins. This is a project of Lawrence Cortez and Romel Rivera, the latter a well-regarded viticulturalist and long-time associate of Bob Foley.

Score 91/100 · Drink 2006-2014, Robert Parker, Dec 2006

Corte Riva’s 2004 Merlot is a wonderful successor to the brilliant 2003. Aromas of chocolate, underbrush, blackberries, cherries, licorice, and espresso roast emerge from this deep, opulent, full-bodied Merlot that coats the mouth. It is ideal for drinking over the next 7-8 years. Previously recommended: 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon (89+), 2003 Merlot (92). Tel. (707) 573-1801; Fax (707) 573-8800
