Vagliagli. 90% Sangiovese, 5% Merlot, 5% Colorino. Dark ruby. A sweet, almost rich cherry nose and plenty of sour cherry on the palate. A tiny bit austere, but long. (WS)

Starting with the 2020 Chianti Classico, this is a dark and brooding wine on the nose, with aromas of graphite, black plum, and candied licorice. It is full-bodied and meaty, with a softly textured mouthfeel, and tangy with tart black cherry, orange pith, and fresh soil. It is warming and has a fairly long finish with angular acidity. It may benefit from a few more months in bottle to harmonize but can be drunk over the coming 5-6 years. Since purchasing the estate in 1997, Elisabetta Gnudi Angelini has been leading the operations of Borgo Scopeto, and today she is joined by her daughter, Allesandra Angelini, who directs export management. They are also the owners of two other notable wineries in Tuscany, Altessino and Caparzo in Montalcino. Massimo Bracalente is the winemaker, and together they oversee all operations.
