Score 91-93/100 · Drink 2023-2045, Neal Martin, Jan 2019

The 2017 Echézeaux Grand Cru, which comes from Les Rouges du Bas, has a far more complex bouquet compared to the Clos de Vougeot; marmalade and dried quince scents infuse the exotic red berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with tart red berry fruit on the entry, laced with orange peel and touches of tobacco. I admire the density of this Echézeaux - not the most nuanced one produced in 2017, but it has plenty of substance and aging potential. This should be interesting in 10 years’ time.

This has very attractive rose-petal and rosehip notes with wild herbs and a swathe of fresh red cherries. The palate carries a succulent, juicy and very fresh array of fine red cherries and a long and fresh, lacy finish with deep flavors. Try from 2022.
