The 2018 Riesling GG Kallstadter Saumagen opens with a clear and intense bouquet of bright, super ripe fruits and shows only a hint of chalk in the background. However, this changes to the opposite after a while of aeration. Full-bodied and powerful on the palate, this is a rich and warm Saumagen that needs years to gain finesse and reduce its power, so stay patient. The finish is powerful but also refreshing with good salinity and mineral drive. Tasted in March 2020.

A delightful fragrance combining ripe yellow fruit, cornfield and meadow herbs open the sensory performance. On the palate Rings’ Saumagen is quite luscious with juicy fruit, but perfectly balanced by lively acidity. Very approachable already. (MS)
