Score 94/100 · Drink 2013-2021, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Nov 2013

Rich, round and sensual, the 2011 Syrah Kenefick Ranch impresses for its energy and nuance. Iron, smoke, licorice, tobacco and savory notes all add complexity to the intense, dark fruit. The 2011 is medium in body, persistent and impeccably balanced. Sweet floral notes add perfume on the finish. This is a fabulous showing.

Bright medium red-ruby. Black raspberry, violet pastille, mocha and exotic flowers on the nose, along with a faint weedy element. Sexy and sappy on entry, then a bit clenched in the middle, with a distinctly herbal quality to the sour cherry and licorice flavors. Not as expressive or ripe as the very good 2010 version. I was bothered by a streak of green acidity running through the wine.
