Meat, earth, dark chocolate, black cherry, rhubarb and redcurrant. Oozes with flavour and complexity. Bright and light for grand cru, perhaps, but oh-so layered. Even so, I prefer their Richemone Vignes Centenaires Nuits-St-Georges. (RH)

Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. The Charmes-Chambertin 2011 from Perrot-Minot actually looks a little more forward in the glass compared to its peers. The nose offers plenty of ripe red fruit tinged with marmalade and orange rind, perhaps a little flaccid compared to others. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins and well-judged acidity. The palate exhibits more cohesion than the nose, leading to a slightly reserved but persistent finish. I like the elegance here, but it needs more substance.
Bright red-ruby. Dark aromas of blueberry, licorice and bitter chocolate, plus a hint of crushed rock. Very concentrated and very ripe, with lovely seamless sweetness to the flavors of blackberry, blueberry and violet. Terrific texture and length here, with sweet tannins.
