2024 Les Charmes-Godard Blanc

Tasting notes
This is one of the first whites our team tasted this year and we were blown away by it – especially considering the price. A blend of 75% Semillon, 13% Sauvignon Blanc and 12% Sauvignon Gris, there’s a hint of box hedge, but beneath that lies honeysuckle and juicy peach. There’s a lovely waxy weight to the palate, the fruit mouth-wateringly fresh and concentrated, with taut acidity that rushes through the wine’s core, and a twist of salt and honey on the long finish. Truly delicious – and further evidence of white Bordeaux’s brilliant value. Aged in 500-litre casks, with around 15% new oak.

More Semillon-dominated, the 2024 Château Les Charmes-Godard Blanc checks in as 75% Semillon, 13% Sauvignon Blanc, and the rest Sauvignon Gris, vinified and aged in barrels, with 10% new. A killer white, it has ripe citrus, tart white peach, mint, and subtle floral notes as well as medium to full-bodied richness and depth on the palate. It's concentrated, has a round, layered mouthfeel, beautiful balance, and a clean, crisp finish that keeps you coming back to the glass. Drink 2025-2035.

About the producer

Nicolas Thienpont purchased this estate in the Côte des Francs in 1988. Largely producing white wine, there is a high percentage of Semillon (60%) with 25% Sauvignon Gris and 15% Sauvignon Blanc. Fermented in 500-litre oak and spending six months on lees, this is an impressive, textured white wine.
