Tasting notes
One of my favorite Château on the upper plateau in Pomerol, the 2024 Château Trotanoy is just about all Merlot yet includes a tiny splash (0.5%) of Cabernet Franc. Harvested from September 17-28 and aging in 50% new oak, its deeper ruby/purple opaque hue is followed by classic Trotanoy notes of ripe black cherries, currants, iron, graphite, and smoked tobacco. With medium-bodied richness, rock solid concentration, and the focused, structured style of the terroir, it's going to be up with the top wines in the vintage.

A fruit-forward red, showing blackberries, dark chocolate, walnuts and nutmeg with some coffee character. Medium- to full-bodied, this has round, juicy tannins and a savory finish. Builds at the end. A blend of 99.5% merlot and 0.5% cabernet franc.
The 2024 Trotanoy is rich and muscular by the standards of the vintage, offering up aromas of minty blackberries, cherries and spices followed by a medium to full-bodied, fleshy and layered palate with a dense core of fruit and plenty of structuring tannin that asserts itself on the youthfully chewy finish.
About the producer

Château Trotanoy was one of the first recognised Premier Cru sites on the Pomerol plateau, with records dating back to the late 1700s. Even back in the nineteenth century it was seen as the best site in Pomerol second only to Vieux Château Certan.
