Ruby-red. High-toned, fully ripe aromas of blackcurrant, dark raspberry, mocha and graphite minerality, plus a strong overlay of sweet, sexy oak. Plush, fine-grained, rich and deep; showing little in the way of restraint but the concentrated dark fruit and spicy oak flavors offer terrific early appeal and sweetness. Finishes with a major dusting of broad, tooth-coating tannins and excellent chocolatey persistence. Like the Boss Block and L'Orage, this is carrying a full load of glossy oak that some tasters may find a bit overbearing. (14.1% alcohol)

Revealing aromas of creamy new oak—vanilla pod, toasted coconut and spice—and background hints of ripe black fruits, the 2015 Block 1 is only medium-bodied, but it's ferociously tannic and drying and concludes with a mouth-puckering finish. I can't imagine any amount of cellaring will resolve the structure here, which I suspect is significantly oak-derived, whereas the fruit may fade.

The Cabernet Sauvignon dominated 2015 Block 1 is another sensational effort from winemaker Scott Greer. Brought up in 100% new barrels and hitting 14.1% natural alcohol, it offers up a heavenly perfume of crème de cassis, spicy oak, graphite, and tobacco. This gives way to a ripe, concentrated, plush Cabernet that has sweet tannin, a big, opulent texture, good acidity, and a great finish. It’s approachable today with a decant, but will be better in 2-3 years and keep for 15-20 years.
