The Hecklingen 2017 Spätburgunder Schlossberg GG opens with a pure, deep and fine, aromatic but also flinty/stony bouquet of black berries and crushed stones. Silky, lush and generous on the palate, this is a remarkably vital and tensioned Pinot with concentration, grip and very fine, crumbly tannins. The finish is long, fresh and tensioned, with lots of energy. Tasted in Wiesbaden in August 2019.

The fragrance of the Schlossberg impresses with a great diversity of aromas, from cigar-box and cedar spice to notes of blackberry, cherry and mulberry bush. On the palate the wine initially entices with the sweetness of berry fruit and roasted chestnuts, before fairly astringent tannins take over the reins. Still a bit stand-offish, but with plenty of potential. (MS)
