Medium ruby-purple, the 2018 Syrah The Hedge opens slowly to red and black currants, garrigue, blood orange, iron and tobacco leaves. The full-bodied palate is grainy and fresh with a deep core of mineral-driven fruit and a long, latent finish. Denser and riper than the elegant 2019, it deserves more time in bottle to unwind.

Deep, bright-rimmed purple. Intense, smoke- and spice-accented black/blue fruit, potpourri and olive scents show sharp definition and mineral lift. Palate-staining blueberry, cherry-vanilla and blackberry flavors smoothly blend depth and energy and open up steadily through the midpalate. Youthfully grippy tannins frame a very long, spicy finish that strongly repeats the blue fruit and floral notes.
