The 2014 Syrah Akasha has closed down since I tasted it on release and has a reserved, yet promising feel in its assorted darker fruits, chalky minerality, cedarwood, and spice-laced aromas and flavors. With full body, present tannin, notable purity, and brilliant overall balance, give it another 2-3 years.

(60% new French oak) Vivid purple. Dark berry preserves, smoky Indian spices, incense and a hint of vanilla on the exotically perfumed nose. Intense, palate-staining black and blue fruit, mocha and violet pastille flavors become more energetic as the wine stretches out. Rich and densely packed but surprisingly lively thanks to a core of juicy acidity. Closes on a youthfully tannic note, displaying excellent focus and floral-driven persistence.
