Score 89/100 · Drink 2013-2018, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Oct 2011

The 2008 Barbaresco Asili is a plump, juicy wine loaded with dark red fruit, mocha, flowers and spices. This is an unusually fleshy Barbaresco for the vintage made in a fruit-driven style. Maybe it is a function of the vintage, but I don't see a ton of Nebbiolo pedigree coming through. Still, the wine is quite attractive on its own terms.

Barbaresco. Medium concentrated ruby with the beginning of orange on the rim. Balsamic, almost ethereal red fruit. Intense on the palate too. Tannins seem a touch rustic at this stage and sweet oak notes shine through on the finish, and it deserves more time to absorb both. (WS)
