100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Currently taut aromatics lead into a taut palate as well. Dusty earth with iron-flake accents on the nose carry into the palate, blended there through succulent black fruits and fresh-picked Italian herbs. Incredibly dense flavours and presentation here and intense delivery of power as if the winemaker was somehow able to squeeze-squeeze-squeeze everything in this wine into a far more compact space than its components would usually demand. Then as it hits the palate the wine bursts forth. This wine needs a ton of air upon opening though the structure is not aggressive by any means. Pair with a marbled steak – the tannins needs its accompaniment here. GV (ECB)

The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve (Alexander Valley) offers striking aromatic presence to play off its intense dark red and purplish fruit. Smoke, tobacco, lavender, licorice and crème de cassis add mid-palate sweetness and unctuosity. This is a gorgeous wine from Rodney Strong, not to mention a terrific value.
The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve, which is a selection of lots from the estate’s hillside vineyards in Alexander Valley, offers broad black cherry and blackberry fruit, more supple tannins, a full-bodied, layered style with beautiful purity and loads of berry fruit. The oak is noticeable but well-integrated. This is a big, classic, and pure style of wine to drink over the next 20 years.
