Score 91/100 · Drink 2003-2006, Robert Parker, Oct 2003

The 2001 Zinfandel Dina’s Vineyard emerges from a dry-farmed, head-pruned 95-year old vineyard. There are 325 cases of this offering, which tips the scales at a lofty 15.9% alcohol. Its deep ruby/purple color is followed by a big, sweet nose of blackberries, boysenberries, and chocolatey black cherries. Medium to full-bodied and rich, with more minerality and structure than the Russian River cuvee, it is a less opulent, but beautifully made, full-throttle effort to enjoy over the next few years. Saturated medium ruby. Roasted blackberry and blueberry, bitter chocolate and black pepper on the nose. Urgent and vinous, with syrupy sweetness of fruit, superb concentration and a strong suggestion of wet slate. Very much like tasting a barrel sample, but with the clarity of flavor of a finished wine. Ends with serious, firm tannins and outstanding lingering sweetness of fruit.
