A step up in price, the 2017 Pinot Noir Mikado Tree offers more smoked earth and spice as well as ample black fruits, medium to full body, moderate acidity, and a big finish. It’s a big, mouthfilling, decadent effort that could use more vibrancy.

This is the first fruit from these new, 100% Swan clone vines. Pale to medium ruby, the 2017 Pinot Noir Mikado Tree offers notions of cinnamon toast, scorched earth and clove to begin, giving way to stewed Earl Grey tea leaves, black cherries, roasted blackberries and cardamom plus red berry sparks—very broody. Light to medium-bodied, the palate explodes with intense, spicy flavor layers, with a frame of grainy tannins and great freshness, finishing very long and spicy. 120 cases were made.
