The 2017 Barolo Parussi comes across as lean, compact and lacking in depth, with aggressive tannins that clamp down on the mid-palate and finish. There's not much pleasure to be found here today, unfortunately.

This is a really gorgeous, young Barolo with dried-cherry, bark, black-truffle and walnut undertones. It’s full-bodied, yet tight and reserved, with dusty tannins and a long, muscular finish. Try after 2024.

Production was stopped on this wine in 2004, but it came back online last year with the release of the 2016. It is now one of the top-shelf bottles from this estate. The 2017 Barolo Parussi opens to a lean and delicate garnet color, and it shows the sharpness and focused contouring that you get with fruit from Castiglione Falletto, with all the detailed mineral nuances. Give this release of just 1,950 bottles more time to age in the cellar.

Parussi is in the northern area of the Castiglione Falletto commune and was aged for 24 months in French oak barrels and 6 months in concrete. The 2017 Barolo Parussi has more reserved aromatics, including orange peel, dried peach, and licorice. There is freshness on the palate, with red cherry, tea leaf, dried earth, and building tannins. Drink 2024-2036.
