Leading off the reds from McPrice, the 2014 Altas Vinas is a blend of 60% Mourvèdre, 20% Grenache and 20% Syrah that saw 60% stems and 24 months in varying size French oak barrels. It offers a forward, sexy style to go with lots of darker, peppery fruits, medium to full-bodied richness, spice and sweet, yet present tannin. This is a classic McPrice wine that shows the charming, softer style of the 2014 vintage. It's already hard to resist, yet is going to keep nicely for at least 7-8 years.

Opaque ruby. Aromas of ripe cherry, dark berries and Indian spices show excellent clarity and an enlivening smoky mineral element. Intense bitter cherry and cassis flavors become sweeter and more lively with air, picking up a hint of cracked pepper. Concentrated yet vibrant and surprisingly light on its feet; finishes on a spicy note, with impressive persistence and smooth tannins lending shape.
