Very crystalline and pure. This seems to have slimmed down a little in bottle – it has hardly aged since I tasted it in 2016 – and was the perfect aperitif in magnum for our Purple Paulée 2018, kindly donated by Jason Haynes of Flint Wines. (JR)

Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting, the 2014 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Maltroye from Heitz-Lochardet took time to really evolve in the glass, although eventually it offers very nuanced scents of yellow flowers, Japanese yuzu and slate-like aromas, all with very fine delineation. The palate is well balanced with fresh acidity, crisp and focused with a palpable sense of energy and tension on the finish. This has good potential.

Quite rich and round with a fine spine of acidity. A good combo! Lots of bright fruit. (JR)
