(based on merlot) Ruby-red. Aromas of plum, redcurrant, tobacco and minerals. Sweet and plump, with sound acids framing the black plum and spice flavors. Finishes with dusty tannins and good juicy persistence.

The impressive 2004 The Tempest, a 524-case blend of 60% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Petit Verdot, exhibits an inky/ruby/purple color as well as a big, rich nose of melted licorice, white chocolate, espresso, blackberries, and cherries. Super-pure, intense, and silky-textured, this stunning wine will drink beautifully for 8-12 years. (63% merlot, 33% cabernet sauvignon and 4% petit verdot) Dark ruby-red. Nose dominated by blackcurrant. Juicy on entry, then distinctly gravelly in the middle, with primary flavors of black raspberry, blackcurrant and mocha. Finishes with substantial tannins. (Incidentally, the Realm 2003s were lost in the October 2005 fire at the Vallejo storage facility.)
