2011 Relic Chardonnay The Sage

(from an old Wente clone; two-thirds of the vines were planted in the 1980s, according to winemaker Mike Hirby): Good full yellow. High-toned aromas of crystallized lemon, nutmeg and nutty oak, with a hint of alcoholic warmth. A bit warm in the mouth too, but with a cooler floral element contributing freshness. Finishes with a slightly tart lemony character. From a cool, coastal site picked in the first half of October.
