Ruby-red. Complex, slightly reduced nose features crushed berries, smoked meat, tobacco and sassafras, plus a whiff of blackberry jam. Intense flavors of spicy berries, licorice and pepper, with a suggestion of minerality. A rather dry, adult-style zinfandel, with reined-in sweetness. The firm finish hints at berries and game.

With 15.6% alcohol, the 2001 Zinfandel Hendry Block 28's earthy aromatic profile includes a concoction of red and black fruits, animal fur, roasted herbs, and meat. The interesting, possibly controversial bouquet is followed by a big, deep, rich, full-bodied, seriously endowed Zinfandel that is loaded with glycerin, alcohol, and fruit.
