Bottled by Remoissenet, Jean Gros's 1971 Richebourg Grand Cru is showing well, unfurling in the glass with a rich and complex bouquet of candied peel, berries and dried fruits that mingle with nuances of musk and exotic spices. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, ample and lavishly textured, with tangy underlying acids and an open-knit, fully mature palate, with just a hint of fraying on the long finish. Bottles that have never moved from a cold cellar since release might well be even better.

Part of the Gros family and based in Vosne-Romanée, Jean Gros established his eponymous domaine with four hectares of vines, including the famed monopole Clos des Réas, expanding the vineyards over the years.
