Pale ruby. Bit past it, alas. Very evolved nose with some buttery quality. Drying out on the finish. I wonder whether this was an unusually bad bottle? (JR)

Deep garnet colour. Absolutely stunning nose with gorgeous earthy character, a touch of soy and leather, still-fresh black fruit but also mushroom and rich milk chocolate. Incredible how youthful and energetic this can be – still quite firmly tannic too. Expressive, long and enchanting. (RH)

From magnum . Very rich and gorgeous on the nose – much riper and more intense than the average Hermitage. Sumptuous. Very long with fantastic thickness. It really does coat the inside of the mouth with such dazzling spice and fruit yet all within the ambit of Hermitage strictness. Lots of tannin on the finish but the fruit concentration is such that this doesn't matter. Quite amazingly long. (JR)
