Corvina 75%, Rondinella 20%, Molinara 5%. Aged in 100% new barriques. Impenetrably dark with narrow, orange-tinged rim. Rich and concentrated, but not overtly sweet. Completely integrated oak. Lots of dark fruit, kitchen spice and hints of appassito dried fruit, but very clean. Only ever so slightly alcoholic on the nose. Almost lip-smacking acidity and rich, ripe fruit. Quite powerful tannin, buffered by sweet, concentrated dark fruit. 4 g/l RS. Still at the beginning of its evolution. (WS)

The estate's 2001 Amarone is simply fabulous. Layers of floral, mineral-infused dark fruit emerge from the glass as the wine opens up. This is an impeccable, brilliant wine that beautifully reconciles elements of ripeness and freshness in a full-bodied style that will reward cellaring. The 2001Amarone is gorgeous today, but readers who prefer more tertiary notes will want to wait a few years as the fruit is still quite fresh.
