The 2020 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Marconnets is brilliant, soaring from the glass with a captivating bouquet of rose petals, dark berries, plums, violets and forest floor. Medium to full-bodied, layered and perfumed, it's vibrant and concentrated, built around bright acids and ripe, powdery tannins. I don't think I've ever tasted a better Marconnets chez Bize.

The 2020 Savigny-lès-Beaune Les Marconnets 1er Cru, which Chisa Bize mentioned is difficult in a hot vintage due to the sandy soils, is very composed on the nose with almost flinty black and red fruit, quite precise and focused, though not a powerful Savigny. The palate is medium-bodied with a little more grip than the Fourneaux, firm tannins and backbone with quite a persistent, classically-styled finish. Patience required!
