Score 93/100 · Drink 2020-2035, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, Jun 2019

The 2015 Barolo shows classic lines and a beautiful disposition that prizes bright primary fruit and Nebbiolo complexity, especially at this early stage in the wine's evolutionary trajectory. The wine is soft and fruit forward with an immediate drinking style that adds a pretty and accessible element to this straight-shooting Barolo. Here's one for that rib eye you've been waiting for. Some 10,000 bottles were produced.

Monforte d’Alba. Tasted blind. Deep, dark ruby. Very closed and slow to open up on the palate. Quite pure if subdued cherry flavours with touches of gingerbread. Fully integrated acidity and firm tannins shaping the finish. Very long and plentiful. (WS)

The 2015 Barolo is a very pretty wine, and also a rare straight Barolo in this vintage that is going to need at least a few years to come together. One of Piedmont's under the radar wines, Alessandria's Barolo has a track record of aging beautifully. I expect that will be the case here as well. Bright red cherry fruit, flowers, chalk and mint add aromatic intensity and brightness, while the typically bracing young Monforte tannins bring notable vivacity.

Sweet, fresh leather, vanilla and dried red-cherry aromas with nuances of tar and wild mountain herbs. The palate has a brisk, succulent feel with sweeping, sheet-like tannins wrapping the long finish. Drink this from 2022.
