Score 90/100 · Drink 2014-2020, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, Apr 2014

Feudo Maccari’s 2011 Nero d’Avola Saia is a beautiful rendition of this native Sicilian grape that delivers smooth fruit and cherry sensations backed by dark spice, chocolate and moist chewing tobacco. The wine ages in oak for up to 16 months and you can feel that extra intensity and softness as the wine caresses the palate. Nero d’Avola’s personality comes through in terms of the bright acidity and aromas of scorched earth. Drink 2014-2020. Feudo Maccari is the Sicilian estate owned by textile entrepreneur Antonio Moretti. He also owns Tenuta Sette Ponti in Tuscany and makes some of the region’s best red blends. Moretti was attracted to Sicilian viticulture early on and set out to create great Sicilian reds to match his portfolio of super Tuscans. The territory he selected between Noto and Pachino in southeast Sicily is especially celebrated for Nero d’Avola. Recently, Moretti added the 100% Syrah Maharis to his growing portfolio.
