The 2018 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru unwinds in the glass with aromas of dark berry fruit, woodsmoke, plums, dark chocolate, licorice and spices. Full-bodied and layered, it's deep and concentrated, with a muscular, introverted profile and a long, lively finish. This is a serious, structured Mazis from Roty, and it will take time to show all its cards.

The 2018 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru is well defined on the nose, featuring graphite-infused black fruit laced with aromas of Christmas cake and loam. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannins, slightly tarry black fruit and some vanilla-y new oak on the finish that will require several years to be fully subsumed. Very good length but patience required.

The 2018 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru, matured completely in new oak, has a dense, introverted bouquet at the moment; I suspect it is closing down for its second winter in barrel. The palate is medium-bodied with pure blackberry and blueberry fruit, fine tannins and a killer line of acidity that lends tension and freshness on the finish. Excellent… but it might be pipped by its Griottes sibling.
