The 2017 Barolo del Commune di Monforte d’Alba is a gorgeous, beguiling wine. Readers will find a Barolo that expresses all of the balsamic, spiced character typical of Ginestra Barolos but without the heft that can make some wines forbidding. Transparent, gracious and super-expressive, Conterno's 2017 is all class. Don't miss it.

Mid ruby. Concentrated spicy dark fruit with quite a bit of power but really contained. Dark cherry with deep, dark underlying fruit.  Supple juicy and concentrated palate with polished powdery tannins. Hedonistic and approachable. Real village level that represents a genuine step up from a blend. (WS)

The 2017 Barolo del Comune di Monforte d'Alba is a gorgeous wine that shows the more delicate side of the village. Bright and translucent, with striking detail, the 2017 offers so much allure. Sweet floral and spice notes lift a core of red/purplish berry fruit. I would give the tannins a few years to soften.
