Score 93/100 · Drink 2024-2035, Erin Brooks, Wine Advocate, Jul 2024

The 2016 Mt. Jefferson Cuvée Pinot Noir contains 69% estate fruit. It was fermented with 48% whole clusters, and the wine was matured for 11 months in 23% new French oak. Its aromas blossom slowly from the glass: cranberry, blackberry and orange peel give way to notes of mushrooms and forest floor. The medium-bodied palate is supple and seamless with concentrated flavors and hints of tertiary character just beginning to emerge. It has a long life ahead. 6,826 cases were made.

Limpid ruby-red. Expansive aromas of ripe red berries, cherry and succulent herbs, with mineral and spice flourishes adding lift. Offers bitter cherry and black raspberry flavors, a touch allspice and a floral nuance that builds with aeration. Shows gentle tannic grip on a very long, spicy finish that leaves a sweet candied lavender note behind.

Herby, sweet red fruit and something slightly rubbery on the palate. Lovely smoky character. Reminds me more of Cape Pinot than Oregonian. Lots of complexity, though very much in a particular style. (RH)
