Score 92/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, May 2008

Medium red color. Zesty redcurrant and wild strawberry aromas offer impressive precision and fan out with air, picking up Asian spices, orange peel and smoky minerality. Brisk, finely etched red berry flavors stain the palate but are seemingly weightless. Deeper cherry and dark berry flavors dominate the long, sappy finish. Displays wonderfully pure, energetic berry fruit and admirable balance.

Bill Hunter also demonstrates a sure hand with Pinot Noir. The 2005 Pinot Noir Sylvia’s exhibits notes of roasted Provencal herbs, the southern Rhone’s garrigue-like smells, and sweet black cherry and strawberry jam, sweet tannin, and lovely fruit flavors. Drink this hedonistic Pinot over the next 3-4 years. The 2005 Pinot Noir Sexton Vineyard reveals a classic Russian River bouquet of pomegranate, roasted herb, raspberry, and tomato skin aromas. With soft tannin and a lush, heady mouthfeel, it should be consumed over the next 2-3 years. Tel. (707) 829-1941
