Dark ruby. Highly energetic red and blue fruit and floral pastille scents show very good clarity and a hint of smoky minerality. Bright and juicy on the palate, offering sweet black raspberry and boysenberry flavors and a touch of candied lavender. Finishes on a gently tannic note, displaying excellent clarity and building spiciness and leaving behind a suave floral pastille note.

Granite and Côte du Py's manganese at 260 m, 80-year-old vines whose produce was given 16 days maceration, 70-80% destemmed, and then aged for nine months in large old oak. Deep crimson. Notably fresh nose – really soars out of the glass. Rich and round. Quite different from the early-drinking Beaujolais – a serious, ageworthy wine. Dense and vegy. (JR)

The 2015 Morgon Côte du Py offers ripe, licorice-tinged dark cherry and raspberry coulis scents on the nose that opens nicely in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fleshy red cherry and strawberry fruit, a pinch of spice and a structured if slightly truncated finish. Hopefully it will develop more persistence in bottle, so afford it a couple of years.
