Score 91/100 · Drink 2019-2027, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Jan 2020

The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon is fruity, supple and easygoing, all of which make it an excellent choice for drinking now and over the next few years. Ripe red cherry, tobacco, cedar, plum, espresso and sweet spice all flesh out in this nuanced, inviting Cabernet.

This is the first re-launching of this “Crossroads” label, so that now all Rudd’s viable fruit is being used by the estate. Composed of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc, 1% Petit Verdot and 5% Malbec, 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Crossroads by Rudd was aged for 22 months in French oak, 46% new. Deep purple-black in color, it comes bounding out of the glass with a sit-up-and-beg nose of crushed black cherries, warm plums and crème de cassis plus touches of chocolate mint, tilled soil and black tea. Medium-bodied, the palate has great freshness and a pleasant hint of chew supporting the taut black fruits, finishing earthy. 839 cases were made.
