Score 90/100 · Drink 2006-2014, Pierre Rovani, Aug 2001

Forty percent of the 1999 Cuvee J Pinot Noir Unfiltered comes from the Temperance Hill Vineyard, 5% from Seven Springs, and 55% from the estate's Le Puits Sec Vineyard. It is medium to dark ruby-colored and has a spicy, black cherry-scented nose. This wine has excellent to outstanding breadth of red and black cherries as well as a distinct new oak signature to its character. It has excellent balance, loads of fruit, and a medium to full-bodied personality. It is lively, fresh, and has a firm finish that will require five years of cellaring and should hold through 2014. Bright, deep red. Primal, fruit-driven aromas of red cherry, raspberry skin, minerals and flowers. Juicy, suave and penetrating, with intense but subtle red fruit and spice flavors lifted by a floral component and bright acidity. Finishes with firm but fine tannins, excellent persistence and grip, and a hint of youthful toughness.
