Score 85/100 · Drink 2009-2013, Robert Parker, Oct 2009

The medium ruby-hued 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape exhibits copious pepper, licorice, and roasted herb notes as well as an evolved style that is meant to be consumed over the next 3-4 years. This large negociant in Chateauneuf du Pape has fashioned three well-made 2007s that reflect the brilliance of this vintage. No known American importer.

Grenache Blanc 65%, Clairette 15%, Bourboulenc 10%, Roussanne 10%. A quarter aged in barriques for up to a year. Pale copper colour. Extremely evolved. Quite an attractive drink now – not unlike a mature Hunter Valley Semillon! – but worryingly advanced. Sweet and full on the palate – lemon cream. (JR)
