Score 93/100 · Drink 2015-2025, Jeb Dunnuck, Wine Advocate, Jun 2015

Mark’s 2012 Lost Soul Syrah comes from one of the best terroirs on the western side of Yakima Valley. Very savory, with lots of umami qualities in its dark fruits, caramelized meats, toasted spice and peppery, earthy aromas and flavors, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, superb mid-palate concentration and building, finely polished tannin. It doesn’t skimp on ripeness, yet the house purity and freshness are well represented. Drink it over the coming decade.

(includes 3% Mourvedre): Bright ruby-red. Inky black raspberry, blueberry, bitter chocolate and licorice aromas are lifted by a violet topnote. Supple on entry, then slightly chunky and clenched in the middle, showing very primary flavors of crushed dark berries complicated by celery seed and sexy Taransaud oak. Very ripe but classically dry wine with substantial tannic clout. A big boy at 15.1% alcohol.
