The first vintage and coming from a 4-acre parcel in Rutherford (Napa Valley), the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon offers sweet, layered and beautifully fresh notes of creme de cassis, blackcurrants and lead pencil shavings to go with a full-bodied, seamless and silky style on the palate. Much more fruit forward, supple and layered than Scott's Sheridan Vineyard releases, it's already hard to resist, yet I suspect it will have an easy 15 years or more of solid drinking.

Also value-priced and delivering, the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon is 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% each of Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Aged 16 months in barrel, it’s more focused and structured than the Mystique, and offers fabulous cassis, currant bud, licorice, olive and underlying herbal aromas and flavors. Full-bodied, layered, concentrated and amazingly structured for an entry-level effort, this beauty will have over a decade of prime drinking. Scott Greer continues to make full throttle, concentrated and textured efforts from his Sheridan Vineyard that’s located just outside the town of Zillah. While he opted to not produce his Singularity cuvee in either 2011 or 2012 (this is still a maybe), both vintages are strong, with his 2011s checking in near the top of the vintage. His 2012s should be a step up and have additional mid-palate depth and texture, as well as beautiful freshness. Nevertheless, both vintages are worth having in the cellar to say the least. In addition to some rock star reds, don’t miss his Chardonnay! Tel. (425) 401-0167; www.sheridanvineyard.com
