Score 92/100 · Drink 2017-2026, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Mar 2016

The 2011 Carmignano Villa di Capezzana is round, open-knit and expressive, with plenty of depth and resonance. There is a level of purity here that is compelling. Sweet red plum, smoke, leather and tobacco flesh out on the silky, polished finish. Aging in French oak gives the Carmignano much of its supple personality. The blend is 80% Sangiovese and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon.

Deep cherry red. Glorious soaring aroma of sweet/sour cherry, ripe but fresh. Herbs and lavender too. More sour cherry on th palate. Chalky dry tannins. Very young but lots of potential. (JH)

Pale to mid ruby. Warm, evolved nose with really composed fruit that spreads across the palate. Lovely acidity and fine tannins – a red that could partner fish desite the relatively high (but not obvious) alcohol. Some dustiness. Real vibrancy. Even some rose-scented delicacy. (JR)
