Score 91/100 · Drink 2025-2035, Jane Anson, Inside Bordeaux, Nov 2023

A lighter style, touches of aniseed and fennel on the opening beats, widens to show plump blackberry through the mid palate, a little drying on the finish, but this has charm and plenty of tannic architecture, good quality wine. Eric Léglisse owner, 12ha estate located in the commune of Arsac, no herbicides or insectides, with an emphasis on biodiversity - over 200 different species of birds, insects and animals have been recorded here in the latest survey.

The 2020 Le Coteau has a concentrated nose with blackberry and briary fruit, quite earthy, maybe just missing a bit of elegance and style. The palate is medium-bodied with rather "thick" tannins, attractive mulberry and blackberry fruit. A little confit in style towards the finish though cohesive and quite persistent. Drink over the next decade.

The 2020 Le Coteau is a mystery. Quite powerful en primeur, today Le Coteau is light bodied and quite delicate. There's lovely red fruit and spice character, but not much depth, complexity or finesse in the tannins. Drink this airy, perfumed Margaux over the next handful of years.

The 2020 Le Coteau is a dark, potent Margaux. There's not a ton of finesse here, but the 2020 certainly packs a good punch. Black cherry, gravel, smoke and licorice linger.
