Score 85/100 · Drink 2025-2030, Neal Martin, Feb 2024

The 2021 Villars has a forward, fruit-driven nose but it lacks amplitude and terroir expression, displaying rather monotone blackcurrant and blueberry fruit. The palate is rounded in texture with fine acidity, but it lacks vigor and feels a bit lifeless toward the finish. Alas, this is a static Fronsac that doesn't really engage.

The 2021 Villars feels slightly overdone on the nose and needs more focus. Medium-bodied with chewy tannins, it displays good grip but lacks precision and feels a bit hard on the finish.

Another Fronsac with limestone-dominant salinity and austerity, where the fruit needs a little more flesh to develop over ageing. This is excellently made, well constructed, rustic tannins, fresh acidities running through the brambled fruits.
