The 2015 Val de Flores still shows the old style, with notes of cooked fruit, some earth, graphite and boiled vegetable aromas and tons of oak, a style that I find very hard to swallow. The palate is full-bodied, with moderate acidity coming through a little flat. For fans of the style. 2015 was a very warm and ripe year. The wine hits the scale at 15.5% alcohol. 27,500 bottles produced. It was bottled in October. Will it ever digest the 24 months in barrel?

A Malbec from Vista Flores, aged for up to 30 months in barrels, in a ripe, concentrated style, overseen by Michel Rolland. Rich garnet red in the glass. The nose offers notes of plum, red currant, pencil box and grape syrup made more complex by leather, tobacco and smoke aromas. In the mouth, the intensity is sustained by the potent alcohol (15.5%), low freshness and slightly rugged texture, while the body is hefty and feels voluminous. The aftertaste is alcoholic with secondary aromas almost befitting a port. A delicious wine.
