Score 95/100 · Drink 2003-2008, Pierre Rovani, Feb 1998

I have re-tasted Niellon's 1995 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Vergers (originally reviewed in Issue # 110, it received a score of 94) four times and have been blown away by this stunning wine from the king of Chassagne. It reveals intense liquid mineral, spice and floral aromas and a fabulous, oily-textured, medium-to-full-bodied, muscular yet elegant personality of layered white fruits, stones, and nuts. In its core it possesses the red berry sweetness that I attribute to the huge extract caused by high levels of coulure and millerandage in 1995. It should reach its peak in 2003 and hold it through 2008. Kudos! Importer: Seagram Chateau & Estate Wines Company, New York, NY; tel (212) 572-7725.
