Score 91/100 · Drink 2026-2042, Neal Martin, Sep 2024

The 2020 Volnay Clos des Angles 1er Cru initially comes across as a little unfocused on the nose, though it improves with light orange rind and black cherry scents. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, lightly spiced, and grippy tannins. A touch of brine and sea salt appears toward the Pommard-like finish, requiring time to absorb the generous layering of new oak. Nicely focused and with just the right level of bitterness, this should age well. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.
