Score 91-94/100 · Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Dec 2018

The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Ellie's is a blend of fruit from several mountain appellations. Firm tannins and bright acids add energy to a core of red and purplish berry fruit. Lithe and medium in body relative to the other Hall wines, the Ellie's is more about persistence than opulence. Chalk, white pepper, iron and game overtones add nuance to this super-expressive Cabernet.

The deep purple-black colored barrel sample of 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Ellie's reveals notions of warm black cherries, cassis and baked plums with touches of spice cake, wilted roses and tobacco leaf. The palate is medium to full-bodied with an approachable backbone of chewy tannins and appealing freshness lifting the fragrant black fruit to a good long finish.
