Score 96/100 · Drink 2009-2019, Jeb Dunnuck, Nov 2009

A blend of the 6 best barrels in the winery, the 2007 Jaffurs Syrah Upslope offers up beautifully pure, nuanced and focused aromatics of blackberries, cassis, violets and flowers that are intermixed with graphite, chocolate and charcoal nuances. Powerful but also amazingly elegant, the wine is full bodied and shows a full, seamless texture, perfect balance between the fruit, acidity and tannin and a long, silky finish. Approachable now, this should age effortlessly for 10 or more years.

Opaque ruby. Powerful, youthfully brooding aromas of cherry pit, dark chocolate, licorice and black pepper. Opens with air to offer sweet dark berry flavors and a strong note of candied flowers. Firm tannins build in the glass and carry through a long, pungent and very spicy finish. This wine deserve patience.
