Bright dark red. Aromatic nose combines red- and blackcurrant, tobacco leaf and high-pitched flowers and spices. Supple and easygoing, with attractive red fruit, floral and spice flavors accented by peppery herbs. Not especially nuanced or deep but fresh and easy to drink, finishing with a light dusting of tannins.

Mondavi's 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon is an excellent effort for the year, especially on valley floor sites. There is plenty of definition in the aromas and flavors. Today, the tannins are a bit firm for a wine meant to be enjoyed basically upon release, but at the same time, I would not be shocked if the 2011 surprises with more time in bottle. The style is tense, energetic and a bit austere by Napa Valley standards. Hints of leather, smoke and grilled herbs linger on the finish.
