Lurid ruby-red. Powerful red berry preserve, Asian spice and potpourri aromas are complemented by a smoky mineral nuance and an incense note that builds steadily in the glass. Sappy, sweet and expansive in the mouth, offering juicy raspberry, cherry, Chambord and floral pastille flavors and lively five-spice powder and white pepper accents. Sweet and seamless on the finish, which features silky, harmonious tannins and wonderful, floral-dominated persistence.

The only wine he doesn’t do 100% whole bunch for. Josh calls this vineyard of shallow topsoil on shale and sandstone the Clos Vougeot of Oregon because it’s big with 22 producers, so there’s almost an unspoken contest for who can make the biggest Shea. This one is actually quite charming and playful rather than big-beast style. Sweet and fresh and charming fruit. Round and approachable. (JR)
The 2016 Pinot Noir Shea Vineyard is pale to medium ruby-purple in color with an open, deep nose of bramble berry fruit, violet and potpourri with notes of forest floor and herbs. Medium to full-bodied, it fills the mouth with ripe black fruits, with a firm frame of grainy tannins and great freshness, herbal and earth flavors coming through on the long, energetic finish. 1,000 cases produced.
