Ruby-tinged red. Redcurrant, tobacco and smoke aromas with a mineral lift. Sweet, dense and quite ripe, conveying a chewy impression of extract. This seemed cool in style when I tasted it from barrel, but the finished wine is fat and full. The chewy finish offers good lift. Like the Santenots, this is 13.7% alcohol.

(I tasted from a new barrel, as the rest of the cuvee was still finishing its malolactic fermentation) Bright, full red. Black raspberry and smoky oak on the nose. Fat, dense and sweet, with a bright raspberry flavor and lovely purity and finesse. Finishes with a cool medicinal note. Lafon was worried about the barrels that had not yet finished their malo, but what I tasted seemed much more elegant than the 2003 version.
